Internship Title - Machine Leaning Applications in Power System
Department - Advanced Technology Solutions
Minimum Education level: PhD
Preferred Majors: Power System Engineering
Department Description:
The Advanced Technology Solutions (ATS) department engages in both long-term research projects and near-term design/process improvements. The department consists of experts in three topic areas: power systems, simulations, and markets. In all projects, the goal of the department is to provide innovative and practical solutions to current and emerging questions for ISO New England.
What will you be working on:
The intern will be working on implementing machine learning techniques to solve power system engineering problems, e.g., resolving voltage violations through reactive device dispatching.
How will you make an impact:
The project targets to develop a voltage control tool that could quickly give recommended actions to control room operators to mitigate real-time base case and/or N-1 voltage violations.
What we look for in a candidate:
Good understanding and hands-on experience in applying machine learning to solve engineering problems.
Good programming skills.
Good understanding of basic power system concepts, power flow and steady-state analysis.
Familiar with power flow software e.g., PowerWorld.
