Job Summary
Under indirect and intermittent supervision, installs and maintains a wide variety of instrumentation and control systems and components. Troubleshoots and repairs instrumentation and control equipment including isolation of component failures. Uses a variety of test equipment and hand tools. Works from drawings, schematics, data sheets, vendor manuals, technical procedures and other work documents. Provides feedback on written procedures. Directs other I&C technicians as lead on routine work and troubleshooting. Directly trains and assists in the training of other I&C technicians as assigned.

Key Accountabilities
- Install, modify, replace, maintian, calibrate, troubleshoot, test, and repair a variety of instrumentation including but not limited to analog/digital NIs; process radiation monitors; signal conditioners; display and trip devices; data recorders, pH meters; conductivity cells; thermocouples; RTDs; potentiometers; fiber optic systems; hydraulic and pneumatic systems; Air Operated Valves; digital programmable logic control systems; digital programmable logic control systems (PLC's); and digital Distributed Control Systems (DCS); fire protection equipment.
- Maintains solid-state electronic equipment such as transmitters; controllers; receivers; dynamic compensators; and digital counters. This includes troubleshooting to the component level and replacing/repairing integrated circuits; transistors; resistors; capacitors; transformers; printed circuit board repair.
- Maintains site security equipment such as explosive detectors; x-ray machines; metal detectors; microwave intrusion detectors; computer multiplexers; card readers; etc.
- Uses/maintains a variety of equipment including oscilloscopes; manometers; DMMs; ammeters; ohmmeters; frequency counters; recorders/plotters; Time Domain Reflectometers; digital calibrators; loop tuning systems; lanyard pots; vibration indicators; signal generators; and resistance bridges.
- Uses tools such as wrenches; screwdrivers; drills; flaring tools; grinders; micrometers; calipers; soldering iron; etc.
- Understands blueprints, diagrams, schematics, vendor manuals, computer databases & drawings for calibration, modification & troubleshooting. Uses charts, curves, tables, graphs, formulas & performs calculations. Updates, revises and creates plant documents. Provides technical support to plant groups, off-site groups, and external customers on complex electrical & electronic control schemes.
- Acts as job project leader. As leader, directly and indirectly supervises other technicians in plant activities, interfaces with other work groups. Conducts pre-job briefs; collaborates with planning for work order revisions; and assists in training/evaluation of new I&C technicians.
- Performs walk-downs of work orders to ensure accuracy. This includes referring to relevant technical sources (prints, diagrams, schematics, etc.), verifying impact statements, ensuring all documents are current and correct, relevant reactor and industrial safety information, cautions and warnings, and other information necessary to provide proper and thorough guidance/documentation for maintenance activities.
- Acts as protection leader for work orders and ADVISES on the tagging of control equipment to protect personnel, prevent damage to instruments or accidental component/system outages.
- Performs surveillance testing on plant instrumentation as designed/required by Technical Specifications and PROVIDES technical reviews of I&C related procedures and work documents. Performs surveillances on fire detection systems.
- Operates manlifts, bucket trucks, and other company vehicles as required.
- Builds and installs test set-ups to support plant projects.
- Maintain records of repairs, instrument calibration data, and part use and ensures completeness of work documentation. Initates requests for work on instrument and control equipment. Fills out reports of repairs to/surveillances of fire detection and fire suppression systems
- Uses chemicals such as chlorine, acids, caustics, hydrogen, ammonia, hydrazine, oxygen, CO2, etc. when servicing equipment.
- Responds to plant emergencies and emergency drills as members of the Radiological Emergency Response Preparedness team (RERP).
Qualifications
- Must have completed a company recognized apprenticeship in the trade of I&C
- -OR -
- Must be working as an Instrument Repairman A or Nuclear Instrumentation and Control Journeyman or Have a least four and one-half years industrial instrument repair experience including two years of electronic control systems component repair experience
- -OR-
- A minimum of six years military nuclear training and technician experience and be qualified to perform Nuclear Instrumentation and Control Journeyman functions.
- Must have a High School Diploma or GED.
- Must conform with ANSI standard AAN-18,1-1971, Selection and Training of Nuclear Power Plant Personnel.
- Minimum of 2 years of working experience in their specialty
- Should have 1 year of related technical training in addition to experience
- Must take the Power Plant Maintenance Selection System (MASS) test and attain a Recommended score. (Exception: You will not be required to take the MASS test if you are an incumbent and/or changing location or have previously taken and passed the test at the same or higher score.)
- Must be able to complete all required initial training (Orientation & Duty Area) within 3 years of hire date.
- Security screening and drug testing is required for access.
- Must have a valid driver's license and meet Company driving standards. Must meet regulatory requirements per Fermi procedures.
- Must be willing to work rotating shifts and weekends as assigned.
