Title: FOREMAN, GAS UNDERGROUND UTILITIES

Reports To: Superintendent / General Foreman

Status: Regular, Full Time, Exempt

Primary Function: Supervise and coordinate the work and performance of crew members making sure jobs are completed on budget and on time in a safe and profitable manner.

Expectations and Responsibilities:

The following list is an outline of duties and responsibilities attached to this position. It is understood that this list is intended to be representative of the functions that may reasonably be expected of the position. It is not intended to be comprehensive.
  1. Organizes, monitors, directs and supervises crew activities to ensure safety and quality standards are being strictly followed. Crew members must have clear expectations defined to ensure smooth operations.
  2. Ensure compliance and adherence to all B Frank Joy, OSHA and project specific safety requirements by all crew members. Positively promote the "see something, say something attitude".
  1. Contribute to and follow the Loss Prevention Plan. Ensure proper accident notification, investigation, and reporting procedures are followed. Conduct and/or contribute to safety meetings and ensure daily safety talks are held with crew(s).
  1. Ensure expected project profitability is achievedby assigning, instructing and managing the work of semi-skilled and skilled employees in accordance with project schedules and production requirements.
  2. Effectively identify potential delays, hazards and out of scope work to prevent schedule and financial impacts to the project. It is mandatory the foreman trouble shoot and utilize problem solving skills to safely move the job forward.
  3. Maintain crew discipline by providing immediate and continuous feedback of employee's performance. Immediately address and document the issue and escalate to the assigned superintendent when required, actions or behaviors not in compliance with established policies. Partner with HR as needed.
  1. Establish and maintain positive, professional relations with customers, owner representatives, and job site inspectors in alignment with BFJ's Core Values.
  2. Ensure accurate and submission of administrative responsibilities (i.e. IRR, Paving Ticket, DPR, labor entry, equipment entry, completed progress entry, material/ tool requests, delivery ticket coding and distribution, and other field reports). This does require daily use of an iPad and corresponding applications.
  1. Maintain teamwork with other Joy departments, divisions and sections to accomplish work tasks.
  2. Conduct job site training and mentor BFJ employees on safety policies, project standards and best practices. Including OJT on how to reference Standards Book and OQ preparation.
  3. Immediately communicate incidents, issues and delays to the assigned project general foreman/superintendent and or the safety department.
  4. Supervises and enforces compliance of all applicable safety and quality standards for all subcontractors assigned to your scope of work (i.e., saw cutters, vac/dump trucks, MOT, restoration, etc.).
  5. Pre-inspects job to ensure readiness and confirm scope of work.
  6. Never settle for status quo, implement better methods of production in all aspects of the work. Challenge and lead the crew to perform at maximum efficiency. Problem solving and utilizing partners immediately once a delay is identified.
  1. May perform additional duties as assigned by supervision.


SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS, & EXPERIENCE:

Educational and experience requirements include: Combinations of technical training and/or experience. Minimum of 3-5 years supervisory experience in similar construction technology, methods, equipment, tools and work procedures required. Understanding of construction scheduling, cost control and ability to control and supervise groups essential. Technology is a huge part of the evolving construction industry. Foreman will need to have a good sense of Microsoft based programs, access databases, Apple/ Android products and other technologies.

*Must have a current valid driver's license, valid DOT card, and pass a MVR review (no more than 3 points on driving records). Candidates selected will be responsible for completing the BF Joy Drivers Qualification Paperwork, provide a copy of a 5-year certified driving record as part of the pre-employment process. The employee would be required to attend driver orientation, and a pass road test.

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION & PERFORMANCE PAY ELIGIBILITY

Performance evaluations are conducted at the end of each project. Cumulatively, these will be used to formulate the employee's annual review. The following areas will be rated by the superintendent in charge:
  1. Communication - written, verbal and using electronic devices such as the Palm.
  2. Project Skills - work management, sub management, the use of change orders and effective billing.
  3. Safety - follows company policies and procedures, conducts toolbox talks.
  4. Profit - Complies with the set schedule, job results vs. job expectations.
  5. Miscellaneous - customer feedback/survey results, overall job quality, training of subordinates.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:

Must be able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited, lifting materials and equipment (up to 70 pounds unassisted), standing, climbing, walking, or using hands to operate/handle tools. Weight limits up to 300 lbs.
