MAINLINE UTILITIES OPERATOR (EXCAVATING)

Layton Services is a commercial, industrial, and residential excavation contractor that has been family-owned and operated in Central Ohio for 30 years. Our services primarily include earthwork, site development (mass excavation, building pads, sub-grade prep), and underground utilities (water main, fire line, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and detention systems). Our office is in Newark, Ohio with a majority of work in Columbus, Licking County, and surrounding area.

* Typical Range is $28/HR - $36/HR *

Summary of Role: Responsible for efficiently operating construction equipment to excavate trenches for underground utilities such as: water main, sanitary sewer + storm sewer. *Must have skills + experience to carefully dig in trench boxes (single + double-stacked preferred).

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Safely operate excavators with precision to dig on grade (possibly around existing utilities) + move trench boxes.
• Communicate clearly with the crew (pipe layer/ foreman/ superintendents) to demonstrate safe operations + project success per plans.
• Reading/ understanding plans + cut sheets.
• Ability to carefully excavate in double-stacked trench boxes when needed.

Education and/or Experience:

• 3+ years of construction/ sitework experience.
• 2+ years of excavating experience to install mainline utilities.
• Knowledge of excavation, trenching, + proper shoring practices.
• Ability to excavate + grade for mainline utility installation according to project plans.
• Ability to carefully excavate around existing utilities.
• OSHA Trenching + Shoring Certified.
