AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Senior Scientist/Senior Ecologist to join our Austin, TX office.

If you have the desire to solve challenges on a variety of infrastructure projects across Texas and elsewhere, this position might be for you. We routinely work on roadway, aviation, municipal, and projects for private industry. The Senior Scientist/Ecologist will perform, lead, and help lead our team in delivering this portfolio of projects. This role will exercise technical expertise, leadership skills, and provide oversight for projects focused in Texas, but may also support work across the U.S.

How will you contribute to the team?
  • Prepare technical reports and permit applications in support of projects and provides peer reviews of reports prepared by others.
  • Oversee or conduct a variety of natural resources field investigations; including, but not limited to: Waters of the United States/wetland delineations, threatened and endangered species habitat assessments, presence/absence surveys, mitigation monitoring, Phase I environmental site assessments, and construction environmental compliance.
  • Serve as a mentor to junior scientists to assist in their training and career development. Supervise and review the work of junior professionals, technicians, and others who assist in specific assignments.
  • Prepare and/or assists with project work plans, scopes, schedule and budgets, and communicate these to project team members; monitor/manage projects production for compliance with schedule, budget and quality objectives.
  • Potential for staff management opportunities depending upon experience and qualifications.

What will you contribute?
  • B.S./B.A. or M.S. in a field of natural resources science; M.S. or graduate level coursework preferred but not required.
  • Typical incumbent has five to at least ten years' experience. This level may be achieved by Scientists with minimum five years' experience with Bachelor's degree, or four years' experience with Master's degree.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Federal and State Agencies such as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Fort Worth District, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), or Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) strongly desired.
  • Demonstrated experience working with TxDOT and performing NEPA tasks.
  • Knowledge of GPS mapping and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • Professional registrations - Professional Wetland Scientist, Certified Wildlife Biologist, or other certification is desirable, but not required.
  • The ideal candidate would have direct experience and knowledge across several Texas ecoregions and be willing to work independently and occasionally remotely from the office.
  • Proven analytical skills, technical writing, computer and communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; good public speaking ability.
  • Ability to work in inhospitable outdoor climates of Texas during all seasons.
  • Travel will be required (~15%).
