PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Signing Bonus: New employees are eligible for a $5,000 bonus; with $2,500 paid on the first payroll, and $2,500 paid upon completion of six (6) month introductory period from hire date

Salary to commensurate with experience.

The Hiring range for this position is: $30.97-$38.72/Hourly

**This job announcement is for collecting candidate applications for current and future Trades Specialist (HVAC) Applicants will be contacted only when a position need is identified, and qualifications match the needs of the position. **

The Facilities HVAC Technician performs skilled heating, cooling and mechanical repairs or new installation on HVAC equipment/systems for Facilities Operations division.

  • Performs HVAC installations, repairs and preventative maintenance tasks for residential and commercial type HVAC system
  • Monitors and inspects facilities, equipment and HVAC systems to determine compliance with City, State and National codes, that need repairs or upgrades
  • Reviews blueprints, construction drawings, and plans
  • Analyzes malfunctions and makes repairs or adjustments
  • Coordinates, monitors and performs installation of materials, fixtures and equipment to HVAC systems
  • May oversee outside HVAC contractors for compliance of codes and good work practices
  • Operates specialized tools and equipment
  • Operates computers
  • Operates monitoring and testing equipment
  • Operates computerized monitoring and BAS systems
  • Maintains records of operation, maintenance, and repairs
  • Prepares related reports
  • Performs detailed HVAC preventive maintenance tasks
  • Maintains inventory of parts and supplies
  • Trains subordinate employees as appropriate
  • May act as HVAC lead worker
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED

Experience:
  • At least five (5) years progressively responsible experience in commercial and residential HVAC repair and maintenance

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum of three (3) years commercial building and facilities maintenance (Preferred)
  • Experience with Building Automated Systems (BAS), namely Johnson Controls - Metasys Software

Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of practices, procedures, equipment and systems related to HVAC including EPA regulations in the handling of CFC's
  • Applicable safety practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of practices, procedures, equipment and systems related assigned function
  • Current HVAC and Building codes
  • Hazards and safety practices common to the construction industry

Skills:
  • Skill in the use of tools and equipment related to HVAC
  • Skill in the use of basis computer programs and related software to include Microsoft Office
  • Skill in the use of single person lifts and fall protection procedures
  • Skill in monitoring the work of assigned coworker
  • Course Training (Proficient Level)
  • Current HVAC, Refrigeration and Building codes
  • Hazards and safety practices common to the construction industry

Abilities:
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and citizens
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Read and comply with blueprints, diagrams, schematics, manuals and specifications
  • Maintain accurate records, logs and reports
  • Train and instruct other employees
  • Perform physical activities common to building maintenance work
  • Ability to organize, coordinate and direct the work of others
  • Ability to work in unpleasant and sometimes hazardous conditions
  • Organize and schedule resources, materials and equipment to accomplish tasks

Licenses and Certifications Required:
  • Colorado Driver's License
  • EPA Universal Certification

Essential Personnel: When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.

Physical Demands:
  • Moderate to heavy physical work requiring ability to lift a maximum of 100 pounds
  • Frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Considerable walking and standing
  • Frequent performance of activities which require a full range of body movement including bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and climbing
  • Hand/eye coordination for operation of maintenance and construction equipment
  • Vision to read reports and manuals
  • Speech to communicate with employees and citizens.

Work Environment:
  • Works both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions with exposure to dust and noise and may encounter fumes from certain chemicals.

Equipment Used:
  • Operates tools, equipment, and vehicles common to HVAC maintenance and repair of buildings.
