Overview:

The Building Services Design Review Specialist will oversee the review and approval of building services designs, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and fire protection systems, ensuring compliance with project specifications, codes, and international standards.

The role focuses on ensuring efficient and practical integration of building services while maintaining safety, comfort, and sustainability in large-scale construction projects.

Responsibilities:

• Building Services Design Review and Approval:
  
  • Review and approve designs for building services systems, such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and fire protection, ensuring compliance with project specifications, local building codes, and international standards.
  • Assess designs for feasibility and practicality, ensuring efficient integration of building services into the project's overall infrastructure.
  • Ensure designs meet sustainability standards, client requirements, and safety regulations, ensuring optimal functionality of building systems.
• Coordination with Design Teams:
  
  • Collaborate with architects, structural engineers, and other disciplines to ensure the seamless integration of building services systems within the architectural and structural framework.
  • Facilitate coordination between the building services team and other design teams, ensuring smooth communication for the successful integration of systems like HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection.
• Quality Control and Compliance:
  
  • Implement rigorous quality control measures to ensure that building services designs meet project standards, regulations, and best practices.
  • Conduct compliance checks to verify that designs align with local regulations, energy codes, and industry standards.
• Technical Problem Solving:
  
  • Address design challenges related to building services systems, ensuring that systems are compliant, efficient, and effective for the building's intended use.
  • Provide technical expertise and problem-solving capabilities to guide the project team in resolving complex issues related to HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
• Documentation and Reporting:
  
  • Maintain comprehensive records of design review activities, including approvals, revisions, and recommendations related to building services systems.
  • Ensure all design documentation is up to date and properly maintained for audits and regulatory reviews.
• Client and Stakeholder Engagement:
  
  • Serve as the main point of contact for building services design queries from clients, ensuring that their requirements are reflected in the designs.
  • Participate in design review meetings with clients and stakeholders, providing feedback and updates on the progress of building services designs.

Competency Requirements:

• Proven experience in building services design review for large-scale construction projects, with expertise in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
• In-depth knowledge of building services codes, sustainability standards, and relevant mechanical/electrical design tools.
• Expertise in reviewing building services designs for compliance with local and international codes, such as ASHRAE, NEC, and local building regulations.
• Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to provide actionable feedback and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.

Minimum Requirements:

• Education:
  
  • BSc Holders: Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Mechanical, Civil, Structural, or Building Services Engineering from a recognized Western-accredited university, with over 15 years of relevant experience.
  • MSc Holders: Master's degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical, Civil, Structural, or Building Services Engineering from a recognized Western-accredited university, with over 12 years of relevant experience.
• Professional Membership:
  
  • Chartered membership in a recognized institution (e.g., ASHRAE, NFPA, or equivalent).
• Experience:
  
  • 10-15 years of experience in building services design review and engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
• Language Skills:
  
  • Fluency in English is mandatory; proficiency in Arabic is an asset.
• Other Skills:
  
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and listening), with the ability to interact effectively with project stakeholders and multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, ensuring that building services designs are compliant and optimized for construction.
