Requirements
- Assist with organizing and implementing an annual operating budget and business plan that meets the owner's objectives, and subsequently tracking financial and plant operational variances, including in major maintenance schedules, dispatch and revenue projections.
- Assist in maintaining a detailed understanding of the financial contracts (e.g., loan documents) and technical contracts (e.g., contract for the maintenance of a major equipment) and commercial contracts (e.g., contract for the lease of land, the off-take of electricity or the supply of natural gas to a gas-fired power generation facility) and ensuring compliance with the reporting and other requirements of those contracts.
- Assist in maintaining an active, on-going understanding of wholesale market fundamentals and assigned RTO/ISO protocols.
- Learn how to monitor and analyze key performance indicators of a project and reports to owners and/or relevant business partners.
- Establish and manage relationships with various project entities, in particular: (a) project land owners, particularly managing the land lease agreements, (b) electricity off-takers, often pursuant to long term power sales contracts deliverables, (c) project lenders, including compliance with loan requirements, and (d) project owners/partners, including periodic presentations regarding financial performance and commercial issues.
- Learn how to create and manage Excel models for various purposes, including budgeting, settlements, invoices and financial analysis of various project opportunities.
- Participating in obtaining insurance coverage, including property and liability coverage, and subsequently managing insurance claims resulting from damage to equipment.
- Working with various project teams including attorneys, engineers, and private equity representatives to:
- Support the restructuring or refinancing of new or amended loan agreements
- Settle commercial issues or disputes
- Manage regulatory issues
- Analyze capital investments to enhance or prolong a project's performance
- Work closely with Plant Managers and plant operations staff to ensure effective implementation of the operating budgets, management of emergent technical issues, and understanding by plant staff of the commercial ramifications of plant operations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree, ideally with a technical major or a Business degree. MBA a plus, though not necessary.
- Wholesale energy market experience a plus
- Knowledge of power plant operations, safety and regulatory compliance and budgeting and financial assessment a plus
