Overview

Responsible for ensuring compliance with all safety requirements, including job site rules and procedures. Inspect the site to detect any and all unsafe working conditions and violations of federal, state, and company regulations. Reviews and interprets safety conditions regularly at the plant and provides recommendations to management. Reviews/analyzes all accident reports and assists in the investigation of serious accidents.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work with all employees on-site to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and company safety and health standards and systems.
  • Actively participate in internal safety and health inspections and audits to identify conditions, behaviors, corrective action implementation/compliance, and/or training-related corrective actions and needs.
  • Assist with implementing and maintaining PSGC safety processes as appropriate.
  • Assist with PSGC's Industrial Hygiene program and schedule.
  • Lead and attend safety-related meetings as required.
  • Provide guidance to a wide range of departmental teams on the execution, development, and implementation of safety policies and procedures to achieve zero injuries and maintain full compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Monitor compliance with project specifications and all applicable regulatory requirements (i.e., OSHA).
  • Participate and support thorough accident investigations and provide management with specific recommendations to prevent recurrence.
  • Prepare statistics and reports relevant to company health and safety programs.
  • Identify and develop initiatives to improve the productivity of PSGC's Safety and Health Management System.
  • Acts as a liaison between the employee safety committees and management.
  • Assists in the development of emergency preparedness plans and provides specific guidance in implementing and maintaining the program(s).
  • Ensure that proper personal protective equipment is available and utilized by all employees.
  • Prepare, conduct, and facilitate required training classes for management, employees, and applicable contractors.
  • Develop and maintain safety-related training schedules, including PSGC ERT and Fire Brigade.
  • Serve as point of contact for OSHA VPP Star evaluations, auditing, and reporting where applicable.
  • Develop and maintain PMs associated with PSGC's safety program to ensure that all assets are maintained in accordance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Assign safety-related PMs to appropriate personnel and track to completion.
  • Assist the PSM Program Manager as required.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Safety Manager.
  • Regular and reliable attendance required.

Qualification Requirements

Education/Experience
  • Degree in Occupational Safety and Health or a related field is preferred
  • Three (3) or more years of experience with applicable Federal, State, and Local regulations as they apply to Occupational Safety and Health.
  • Experience with Emergency Response, including Incident Command, Industrial Fire Brigade, Rescue, IDPH Medical Protocols, and HAZMAT is preferred.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and database applications.
  • Development and administration of employee and contractor safety training.
  • Development of Hazard Analysis systems.

Knowledge of

  • Knowledge of safety and health procedures required.
  • Knowledge of power-generating operation principles is required.
  • Knowledge of state and federal health and safety and health regulations required.
  • Knowledge of Root Cause Investigation processes
  • Knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, ANSI, and other applicable standards and regulations is required.

  • Must be able to effectively communicate with employees, supervisors, company leadership, organizational owners, and the general public as a representative of the PSGC leadership team.
  • Must possess outstanding leadership skills that support the values of safety, teamwork, accountability, and sustainability.
  • Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to read and understand operating procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a highly organized work environment.
  • Ability to provide oversight and support for a 24/7 shift operation as required.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to sit, stand, reach, stoop, and lift boxes weighing as much as 25 pounds.
  • Ability to safely wear a negative pressure respirator per OSHA regulations.

  • Must be able to walk distances of up to a quarter of a mile over rocky and uneven surfaces.
  • Must be comfortable working in an industrial environment, at significant heights and around high-pressure steam and a variety of hazardous materials.
