One of our major Oil and Gas clients is looking for a Safety Instrumented Systems Specialist to join their team on a 2-year contract in Kitimat, BC.
The purpose of the CSU Support - Safety Instrumented Systems Specialist is to support process control and safeguarding functionality for safe, reliable and efficient operation of the facilities in Commissioning and Start-up phases allowing to further fully sustain in the Operate phase. This includes - support troubleshooting, maintaining and continuous improvement of the instrumented safety critical elements in the facility like Fire &Gas (F&G) systems, Instrumented Protection Systems (IPS), Burner Management Systems (BMS) etc.

You will use your expertise to:
In Execute Phase
- Support operations and other interfaces on safeguarding schemes whenever needed.
- Support SIS activities such as Online modifications (configuration changes), Trip investigation & trouble shooting, Alarm management support (investigating safety instruments related alarms), Documentation support (C&E reviews & markups).
- Support SIS Authorities in functional and detailed design, development, testing, safe and smooth implementation of Management of Change (MOC) with process control and safeguarding scope as needed.
- Proactively get involved in the CSU and ramp up related activities while being an active members of ADT (Asset Delivey Team) when asked (participate to Function testings and support close out of punches).
- Provide high quality support for process control and improvement of control and safeguarding systems for the company and interfaces.
- Deliver SIS aspects of the company in accordance with project HSE, technical standards, quality standards and procedures as defined in Contract and Project Specification, during design, construction, commissioning and start-up.
- Optimize processes via all the techniques to improve safety performance standard and to maintain Safety Integrity Levels (SIL)..
- Review the Safeguarding content of plant modifications/changes as well as instrument trip/alarm settings such that plant integrity remains ensured and design objectives are met.
- Ensure documents, i.e. control and IPF narratives, Functional design specifications, etc., are maintained and as-built comments are accurately kept. Participate in required HSE activities (audits, meetings, etc.) and demonstrate (by example) safe work practices and procedures to the contractors at all times.
- Support the implementation of control and safeguarding functionality in DCS and SIS .
To be successful, you will have:
- University degree or equivalent in Control Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical engineering, Applied Physics or Mathematics.
- 8+ years of experience with working with SIS in the process or oil and gas industries.
- In depth knowledge of Functional Safety Standard (IEC 61508 and IEC61511)
- Strong understanding of Process Safety concept such as HAZOP, LOPA, and risk assessments.
- Understanding of SIL verification and Validation
- Troubleshooting skills with SIS systems, including logic solvers, sensors and actuators.
- 2+ years of Yokogawa Centum VP and Yokogawa ProSafe experience.
- Certification in Functional Safety (TUV,CFSE or equivalent) is preferred.
- Wider appreciation of Gas/LNG business processes and principles and experience in a Gas/LNG Major Project is an advantage.
- Ability to contribute to decision support and assurance as well as organizing and/or carrying out hands on technical evaluations.
- Sound systematic approach to technical and multi-disciplinary challenges. Strong analytical abilities having knowledge of engineering tools and simulations etc.
- Able to integrate projects and initiatives while managing inter-cultural sensitivities and leveraging D&I. Communicate with internal and external interfaces with strong spoken and written communication skills.
Work Conditions:
- Hours of Work: 50 Hrs. per week, 10hr days, which may need to be extended to 12-hour day/night shift during critical start-up activities.
- Living arrangements: Company provided accommodation will be provided in Kitimat (unaccompanied status).
- Normal working pattern: 10 hours/day x 5 days per week
- Shift pattern to support critical start-up activities: 12 hours per shift to align with team shift pattern, 7D - 7N - 4 Break. Start of shift will be communicated closer to critical start-up activities.
