Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Intake capital improvement concepts from the Surface Transportation service lines and evaluating their merit in relation to ongoing projects.
  • Shepherd candidate projects through the Capital Plan process to develop a right sized scope of work, budget, and project delivery schedule.
  • Lead activities that include modelling, planning, and developing future transportation networks that deploy zero emission technologies.
  • Coordinate activities related to the planning and engineering of infrastructure, facilities, and fleet dedicated to the deployment of advanced energy systems and bus services.
  • Attend activities related to developing global best practices in developing/managing power infrastructure for transit networks, zero emissions transportation systems, and new bus technologies.
  • Assist project managers for major capital projects as a technical lead or advisor in subjects related to power infrastructure planning, zero emissions technologies, bus facility planning, and relatable fields.
  • Manage and administer capital projects and planning/research activities as necessary,
  • Coordinate agreements, policies, and contracts with BPU, utilities, and other related stakeholders for projects,
  • Coordinate communication with local, regional partners, and other stakeholders for capital projects and planning activities,
  • Assignments can include: Developing fleet, facility, and infrastructure plans for zero emissions systems, investigating necessary power requirements for facilities, coordinating with utilities and other stakeholders, developing models and calculations to analyze system performance of emerging energy technologies, writing policy recommendations for adopting new energy practices for fleet, and infrastructure.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in engineering, Planning, Economics, or related field.
  • A masters degree in engineering, Public Policy, and/or Planning is preferred.
  • Six (6) years of experience that are related to the following: Engineering, Transportation Planning, Public Policy, and/or Urban Planning.
  • A masters degree in planning, Engineering, or Public Policy can substitute for two (2) years of experience.
  • A PHD in Engineering, Energy Systems, Planning or Public Policy or related field can substitute for career experience.

Knowledge and Skills:
  • Strong mathematics, modelling, and analytics background is desirable.
  • Knowledge in systems engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field is desirable.
  • Knowledge of power, energy, and infrastructure needs for different fuel cell and battery technologies is desirable.
  • Knowledge of power infrastructure is desirable.
  • Knowledge of transportation planning is desirable.
  • Technical writing skills preferred.
  • Knowledge of contracting principles, scope of work generation, project schedule and budget management is desirable.

This Position Supervises:
  • Energy Systems Planner
  • Bus Infrastructure Planner
  • Power Engineer

Physical Demands:
  • Typical indicative of an office environment and capable of hiking/light climbing for field visits. Visual inspection of facilities and facility components.
