The Automation Specialist role involves developing and implementing automation strategies, leading capital projects, and maintaining standards for lifecycle management of automation systems. Key duties include overseeing the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of automation equipment (DCS, PLCs, RTUs, HMI), supervising technicians and contractors, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and optimizing system performance. The role also includes technical leadership in safety-critical projects, documentation, cybersecurity, and integration with SCADA environments. Additionally, responsibilities include participating in incident investigations, providing mentorship to junior staff, and ensuring reliable, cost-effective operations at Midstream facilities.

Phillips 66's Midstream business is a safe, reliable and trusted logistics provider for the movement and storage of liquid or gas energy via pipelines or terminals. We are an industry leader in logistics and operate or manage more than 22,000 miles of pipelines that transport crude oil from oil fields to refineries and finished products from refineries to storage terminals. We operate 39 terminals that supply finished products to consumer gas stations, as well as crude oil and NGL storage terminals and NGL fractionation facilities. We also provide the connectivity between the various Phillips 66 business units.

Required:
- Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
- Technical degree, diploma, Associates degree, or higher degree in Instrumentation, Electronic Communications, or Industrial Electronics
- A minimum of 12 years related experience is required; oil and gas industry experience preferred
- 7 or more years of industry experience in program development and troubleshooting PLC and DCS control platforms (including Allen Bradley)
- Proficient in applying NEC/NFPA 70
- Proficient in PLC and DCS configuration languages
- Must maintain valid driver's license
- Able to travel 30%-50% of the time
- Able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and work is performed partially outdoors.
- Able to work outdoors in harsh weather conditions
- Able to support operations after hours
Preferred:
- Expert level of understanding and demonstrated ability to program and/or configure automation technology such as sensors, PID loop control, data communications, and other electrical machines
- Intermediate level of proficiency with Oil & Gas business processes and equipment such as mainline motors and engines, pipeline flow measurement equipment, VFD's, and tank level measurement equipment
- 3 or more years of experience in automation network design for industrial applications
