Overview
The Utility Technician III is responsible for the maintenance and operation of the water distribution system and wastewater collection system. They are also responsible for remaining in compliance with TCEQ and other applicable laws and regulations while working within the scope of their position.

The Utility Technician III is responsible for the maintenance and operation of the water distribution system and wastewater collection system. They are also responsible for remaining in compliance with TCEQ and other applicable laws and regulations while working within the scope of their position.
Responsibilities
- Plan crews daily assignments
- Perform, lead, and train crews to install, repair, and maintain water distribution and wastewater collections systems
- Operate backhoe and large excavation equipment
- Train employees for CDL and proper equipment operation
- Ensure proper dosing and disinfection of water mains and repair material
- Review, interpret, and train crew members on maps, plans, and drawings
- Create permits for street cuts and confined space entry, ensure traffic control plans, trench safety, and worksite safety practices are followed
- Coordinate installation of well point and bypass pumps
- Create work orders, log time, material, equipment, and work performed in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
- Provide customer service while performing responsibilities
- Coordinate activities on the job site with engineers, construction inspectors, other City departments, and external customers
- Performs other related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
- Exempt - Full-Time
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
- In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED
- Three (3) years of experience
Required
- TCEQ Class C Water License OR Class I Wastewater Collection License at time of hire
- A valid Class A CDL is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas Class A CDL within 90 days of hire
