About this Opportunity
Brunswick County Public Utility is currently accepting applications for a Generator Maintenance Technician to join our Instrumentation & Electrical Division. The Generator Maintenance Tech performs specialized skilled work as related to the County's water and sewer generator systems and related appurtenance and works as part of a team to help ensure Brunswick County is able to deliver clean, reliable, and efficient water and wastewater services to customers across the county.
The Generator Maintenance Tech will help to install, repair, and maintain the utility generators and transfer switch systems and related instrumentation and electrical equipment throughout the County's utility system. Responsibilities include:
The Generator Maintenance Tech must exercise initiative and independent judgment when completing assignments and is also responsible for assisting in the preparation of a variety of reports, maintaining records related to the generator systems and equipment, and other duties as assigned. The Generator Maintenance Tech reports to the Instrumentation and Electrical Generator Maintenance Crew Supervisor.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED AND experience in generator and transfer switch maintenance and diesel maintenance repair; OR associate degree in marine and diesel mechanics, electrical engineering technology, or related field; OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
Physical Requirements
Must be physically able to operate pump station equipment, personal computer, related office equipment, and motor vehicle. Must be able to exert a minimum of 100 pounds of force and/or up to 50 pounds of force more frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Ability to climb communications towers and water tanks carrying up to 50 pounds of equipment.

- programming equipment and software to set up, troubleshoot, and maintain generator systems and related processes.
- inspecting and troubleshooting generator and related equipment.
- interpreting electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic drawings and diagrams, specifications for additional and/or replacement equipment, etc.
- ordering parts and supplies for service.
- drafting correspondence to initiate repair work on specific components of the system.
- coordinating major repairs with other divisions, other utilities, external vendors, etc. as required.
