Description

CAMS is seeking a Plant Engineer for the New Haven Harbor Station in New Haven, CT. Under the general direction of the Maintenance Manager, the Plant Engineer is responsible for plant engineering, operations & maintenance support, contractor oversight, and project management. The Plant Engineer serves as a resource for plant personnel to assist in the safe, effective, and efficient operation of the facility. The successful candidate will also be responsible for various reports to support the business.

New Haven Harbor Station is a 453 MW, #6 fuel oil and natural gas fueled facility consisting of one conventional steam unit in New Haven, CT. New Haven Peaking is a 144MW, ULSK and natural gas fueled facility consisting of three LM6000 simple cycle combustion turbines co-located on the property of New Haven Harbor Station.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Engineer, design, and justify plant modifications and improvements.
  • Make informed decisions on engineering issues and methods that are cost effective and of high quality.
  • Perform troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repairs on complex electrical and mechanical issues, coordinating with site personnel, vendors and contractors as needed.
  • Evaluate and make recommendations for plant spare parts inventory.
  • Development of specifications for equipment and materials as required in support of facility projects.
  • Schedules and oversees contractors and vendors for maintenance, upgrades, and outage tasks.
  • Provide guidance, oversite, and directions to personnel as needed.
  • Develop and maintain plant performance and efficiency analysis tools and report's findings to the Plant Management.
  • Develop and maintain heat rate curves and load forecasting tools to assist in the bidding of the units.
  • Responsible for all GADs entries
  • Maintain the technical library and drawings to ensure that all necessary reference materials are available and up to date.
  • Prepare capital project budgets for approval and administer the project budget.
  • Provides support in the development of work scopes associated with scheduled and non-scheduled outages.
  • Carries out complex projects and assignments independently.
  • Establishing work repair plans for engines and components undergoing repair/overhaul.
  • Administer the OSI/PI historical data retrieval tool.
  • Responsible for NERC compliance at site level.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (degreed Engineer) required
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in power plant operations and maintenance required.
  • Extensive knowledge of gas and steam technologies is preferred.
  • Experience with operations and maintenance of gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, electronic controls and monitoring devices.
  • Proficiency with personal computers, including Excel.
  • Proficiency with OSI Pi Software
  • Demonstrated experience indicating effective communication skills, analytic ability, detail orientation, and ability to make decisions and meet deadlines.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate in English and coordinate effectively with external and internal
