Job Responsibilities

York Technical College, a member of the South Carolina Technical and Comprehensive Education System, is a public, two-year institution of higher education that offers a variety of associate degrees, diplomas, and certificates. Through maximizing student success, the College seeks to contribute to the economic growth and development of York, Lancaster, and Chester counties and of the State.

The HVAC/Energy Management Systems Technician II performs the following functions:

  • Evaluate, repair, install, and maintain a variety of HVACR systems and associated air handling, chilled water distribution, and control mechanisms including chillers, boilers, associated pumping systems, commercial heat pumps & gas packs, pneumatic & DDC HVAC controls, cooling towers, fan coil units, VAVs, and other refrigeration equipment. Manages and maintains the Energy Management System (EMS). Maintains records, prepares reports, and orders supplies or equipment.
  • Install new HVAC systems in remodeled or renovated areas. Install and upgrades controls to HVAC equipment on campus. Reviews & provides recommendations for HVAC design on construction projects. Plans layout and installation of HVACR equipment, based on job specifications and local codes. Estimates time, material, and labor costs for in-house project plans.
  • Monitors and uses EMS to evaluate proper operation of HVAC system. Adjusts, repairs, and recommends maintenance to improve system performance. Develops a preventative maintenance schedule for HVACR equipment. Performs routine maintenance, cleans, and services HVACR systems. Assists with overseeing service contractors in the areas of preventive maintenance and project work related to HVACR.
  • Serves as Lead HVAC and EMS Technician. Assist facility and project managers with oversight of contractors installing or repairing HVAC systems. Leads other facility maintenance employees assisting with repairs and installation of HVAC systems and equipment. Provides training to employees performing journey-level HVAC work.
  • Performs and assists with plumbing, electrical, and general facility maintenance (in areas such as carpentry, door hardware, painting) as needed. Available to respond to maintenance emergencies occurring after normal business hours and weekends for rotational call duty. Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

  • High school diploma and experience in the installation and maintenance of HVAC systems or in the operation and maintenance of HVAC mechanical and building control systems.
  • A current, valid driver's license.
  • Must have an EPA 608 Universal license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • An associate degree and at least four years of directly related experience OR a high school diploma and at least six years of directly related experience is preferred.
  • A Mechanical Contractor license or Master Technician license is preferred
