Summary or Purpose
Operate, monitor and maintain generators, switchgear controls, motor control center and equipment associated with mechanical equipment used to monitor and distribute electricity.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification. Monitors and maintains the oil and fluid levels of power plant equipment in accordance with standard Department procedures and Borough policy.
Monitors and make necessary adjustments to water temperatures and pressures.
Operates and maintains stationary engines, generator sets, associated mechanical equipment and facilities.
Maintain generator cooling system, mixing and testing for recommended levels.
Changes oil, fuel and air filters.
Maintain a daily log of equipment performance, power output, generator operations, and power and fuel outages.
Assist Lead Power Plant Operator and Village Services Supervisor with inventory; requests, receives and stores supplies and equipment.
Inspects and cleans equipment and facility; reports maintenance needs and deficiencies to supervisor.
Comply with all safety rules and regulations.
Attend all required scheduled safety meetings.
Responds to power plant alarms and power failures, and reports problems to supervisor.
May be required to work a non-traditional work schedule to include evening, holidays and weekends and may be subject to 24 hour on-call status.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of North Slope Borough organization, operations, policies and procedures.
Education, Experience, Certifications and Licenses Required
High school graduate or G.E.D./or a combination of 12 years of education and related work experience
