Crude oil is an essential element of our nation's energy supply - fueling our cars, trucks, airplanes, and factories, and heating and cooling our homes. As part of the energy mix, the United States relies on a steady supply of crude oil to produce products we use on a daily basis. LOOP plays a key role in meeting those daily energy needs as the single largest point of entry for waterborne crude oil coming into the U.S.
LOOP is a joint venture of Marathon Petroleum Company, Shell Oil Company, and Valero, and is the only Deepwater Port in the U.S. capable of offloading and loading a wide range of vessels from Ultra Large Crude Carriers down to Medium Range Tankers.
LOOP stores crude oil in eight underground caverns in a naturally occurring salt dome capable of storing approximately 60 million barrels. In addition, LOOP has a modern above-ground tank facility consisting of twenty-two tanks with a total storage capacity of 12 million barrels.
LOOP has called Louisiana home for over forty years. With headquarters in Covington and operating facilities in Galliano and St. James LA, as well as a facility 20 miles in the Gulf of Mexico.
Summary Description
Under direct supervision, responsibilities are but not limited to ensure crude oil is transported inland from vessel, to storage then to delivery as safe and efficiently as possible. This is an entry level position which the individual will work closely with experienced operators training on all day-to-day tasks. This individual will have to complete training per the On the Job training program on a set timeline. Individual will be responsible for completing training, obtain required OQs, working with daily operations, perform daily job duties, such as equipment & systems checklist, issue permits & LOTO for maintenance, and reflect the knowledge retention. To ensure safe operation of company assets, environmental stewardship, and safety of employees by making rounds, atmosphere/area monitoring, complete checklist, perform periodic maintenance, assist operations, projects, maintenance, communicate with OMCs to investigate alarms and perform local operations as needed. Upon completion of training, assist operations with an emphasis on knowledge for corrective action to prevent or reduce harm to people, property, and the environment, for Marine Terminal Operations Facilities.
The successful candidate may be required in the future to relocate to any of LOOP's operational facilities in Galliano, LA, St. James, LA or Covington, LA.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Education: Associates Degree in a mechanical/ electrical field or equivalent from two-year college or technical certificate in related field preferred.
Experience: Minimum three (3) years prior experience in and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists in continuous monitoring, operating, inspecting, and testing of all equipment, pipelines and measurement systems.
- Actively participate in observation/intervention/SWA program and ESG program
- Identify abnormal or emergency situations and take immediate necessary corrective action such as fire fighting, oil spill containment, rescue, HazMat, first aid, confined space, etc., to minimize the possibility of damage to life and property.
- May operate specialized equipment including, but not limited to mobile cranes, man-lifts, forklifts, heavy-duty trucks, and boats. Train and qualify for API 2D pedestal crane operator.
- Assist in PM execution, documentation, & follow up WO creation
- Assist in tag and lockout of various equipment and piping, issue permits & perform drain downs for Operations and/or Maintenance. Conducts pulling and loading of pipeline pigs and cleaning of meter strainers.
- Assists in performance of maintenance on equipment and instruments as needed to maximize equipment availability.
- Records equipment repairs, history, and replacements in the LOOP Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Conducts sampling of crude.
- Assists Oil Movement Controllers, Operations Technicians and Maintenance Technicians as needed.
- Assists in continuous proactive maintenance (electrical, mechanical, and instrumentation) on all equipment and devices, to ensure maximum availability to oil movements.
- Performs emergency repairs to limit and/or minimize interruptions to LOOP and its customers.
- Monitors, troubleshoots, and analyzes potential problem areas.
- Performs non-routine maintenance to such equipment and processes as air conditioning, high voltage repairs, and testing; pump, valve, and actuator repairs, including, alignment, bearing, and seal repairs; cavern testing and monitoring; hydrostatic testing; environmental monitoring; modifying and improving existing equipment; measurement equipment; diesel generator; storage tanks, and other unique devices.
- Identifies, locates, and purchases spare parts and/or supplies in the most cost effective and timely manner.
- Performs and maintains general housekeeping of work area including office, lab, building, vehicles, machinery, and boats.
- Maintain required levels of training and certification according to LOOP and OSHA Standards.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of and strictly adheres to LOOP safety requirements. Actively participate in observation/intervention/SWA program and sequential safety meetings.
- Provide Operations relief to maintain and operate the LOCAP-St. James, Clovelly Hub, or Marine Terminal facility as needed once qualified.
- Performs inventory and warehousing duties as required.
