The University of Maine at Augusta is seeking applicants for the full-time position of Mechanical Specialist HVAC, Career Level 2 in the Facilities/Grounds department at the Augusta campus. The Mechanical Specialist performs tasks related to maintaining the operations of an assigned mechanical system and motor vehicle fleet by performing established preventative maintenance, troubleshooting operational issues, installing systems, and inspecting systems.
Responsibilities include:
The employee will perform other campus maintenance tasks including, but not limited to, snow removal, room set-ups, equipment and grounds maintenance, building maintenance, and other manual labor. They will work with materials and chemicals associated with cleaning. This position is designated as an essential position requiring the individual to be able to work during periods of inclement weather and/or campus emergencies.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with the ability to work occasional weekends and nights as required.
Wage: $23.19 per hour. This is a regular, full-time position.

The University of Maine at Augusta is seeking applicants for the full-time position of Mechanical Specialist HVAC, Career Level 2 in the Facilities/Grounds department at the Augusta campus. The Mechanical Specialist performs tasks related to maintaining the operations of an assigned mechanical system and motor vehicle fleet by performing established preventative maintenance, troubleshooting operational issues, installing systems, and inspecting systems.
Responsibilities include:
- Installing, maintaining, and repairing heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and steam distribution equipment and systems to optimize energy use
- Operating a variety of equipment such as hand tools, laptop computers, and diagnostic hardware to perform work
- Installing, maintaining, and repairing computerized electronic pneumatic and digital direct control devices related to HVAC and heat control
- Operating various measuring, diagnostic, and testing instruments
- Requisitioning material and supplies, calling vendors to discuss needs for parts and supplies, and recommending purchases and suppliers
- Reading complex blueprints, piping, sketches, schematics, and wiring diagrams
- Maintaining electronic/pneumatic testing equipment
- Performing brazing, soldering, pipefitting, welding, and fabrication
- Maintains underground steam distribution system through repair and/or replacement of parts

- high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)
- sufficient experience to obtain appropriate certification or license
- three years of related experience
- class C driver's license with a clean driving
- the ability to work nights and weekends and in adverse weather conditions
- the ability to do manual cleaning and perform manual labor including snow shoveling
- the ability to work occasional overtime hours
- the ability to routinely lift, carry, and move 50 pounds
- the ability to read and follow written and oral instructions
