Job Description Summary

The Rotating Parts Advanced Manufacturing Quality Engineer will work within the Rotating Parts Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Development (AMED) team to drive the development and standardization of manufacturing across Rotating Parts & Compressor Airfoils (RPCA). In this role, you will work across RPCA sites to establish standardized and scalable methods to increase manufacturing flexibility, simplify process / part transfers, and ensure business continuity. This role involves the development and execution of a strategy to modernize and scale our manufacturing and inspection processes across RPCA, reduce NPI cycle times while increasing initial NPI part quality, and address high mix / low volume manufacturing. You will become a functional and technical expert for inspection process execution within RPCA, with responsibility for leading operational improvement and developing technical talent within GE Aerospace.

Job Description

Key responsibilities:

The Advanced Manufacturing Quality Engineer will demonstrate manufacturing process leadership by defining and implementing state-of-the-art inspection methods within GE Aerospace's internal Supply Chain shops. In this role, you will utilize your experience and expertise to support advanced process development, improve process capability, reduce inspection frequency and cycle times, and define and teach the standard for inspection of Rotating Parts:

  • Define, test, and standardize manufacturing inspection methods.
  • Teach, coach, and mentor technical talent on the above methodologies.
  • Lead key elements in all stages of APQP / PPAP activities.
  • Enable on-time delivery, yield, & cost improvement through implementation of state-of-the-art inspection processes.
  • Support Rotating Parts process development within the AMED team.
  • Make recommendations and help implement / stabilize process changes in production environments for deployed processes.
  • Achieve inspection methods that demonstrate high levels of repeatability and ease of use that can be scaled within the part family.
  • Produce and deliver formalized training curriculum in support of best-in-class methodologies.
  • Help invent next generation inspection methods and disruptive technology, enabling new levels of safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
  • This role includes both quality assurance and quality control. It includes quality assurance of products, services, and manufacturing processes. It includes conformance in manufacturing, incoming goods control, product inspection, witness points, etc, including responsibility for CMM inspection and programming for hardware created within the AMED team.
  • Ensure compliance to applicable requirements within the GE quality system.
  • Author, review, and approve manufacturing work instructions and work instruction revisions for manufacturing and inspection processes created within the AMED team.
  • Lead and participate in all quality activities, with a focus on quality objectives, product conformity, including first article inspection and characteristic accountability.
  • Use effective Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) strategies as they apply to the development of new and advanced processing methods.
  • Organize, analyze, and share inspection data to establish and improve process capability.
  • Regularly engage in continuous learning and continuous improvement activities.
  • Demonstrate ability to lead change through influence.
  • Assemble and utilize strong technical network and establish and maintain respect among technical peers.
  • Travel to support multiple internal GE Aerospace sites, work with suppliers, and take part in external training or conferences as needed.


Desired Experience:

  • In depth understanding of manufacturing and inspection processes used within RPCA value stream (e.g., turning, milling, grinding, broaching, CMM, contour tracers, vision systems, etc.).
  • Implementation of NPI programs into full-rate manufacturing production.
  • Process improvements that have led to large step changes in safety, quality, delivery, or cost for a given product.
  • Prior Quality Engineering roles relevant to Rotating Parts.
  • Experience inspecting aerospace hardware with a strong understanding of blueprint and specification requirements.
  • CMM operation and programming utilizing PC-DMIS.
  • Experience within a high-volume, high mix, production environment.
  • In-depth understanding of GD&T, datum structures, CAD2CAM, etc.
  • Controlled Title Holder (CTH) within the Inspection pyramid or progressing within the technical talent career path.
  • Deep understanding of process capability and statistical methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach, coach, and mentor technical teams.


Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university (or a high school diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years of manufacturing experience) + 5 years experience in Quality Engineering relating to Rotating Parts hardware
