Wood is recruiting for a Compression Mechanic to join its Operations team focusing on Oil & Gas (OA). This opportunity is in Pecos, TX. Wood offers health benefits, 401K, vacation, and more. Authorization to work lawfully in the US without sponsorship from Wood is required. Local candidates only.
The Role
Core requirements: Strong experience with reciprocating and screw compressors, 3500/3600 CATS, and electric compressors. Ability to work independently in field conditions and demonstrate HSE leadership.
The Compression Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and repairing compression equipment in oil and gas operations. This includes routine maintenance, major overhauls, troubleshooting, and working closely with vendors and engineers to resolve equipment issues. The role requires strong technical skills, a proactive approach to safety, and the ability to work in extreme outdoor conditions.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Typical responsibilities
• Ensure operations sites are maintained safely
• Coordinate and plan major overhauls of compressor packages
• Perform routine maintenance on reciprocating and screw compressors
• Work on VRUs and gas lift systems
• Oversee major repairs on pumps, compressors, and engines
• Troubleshoot and maintain gas liquefaction and production equipment
• Collaborate with vendors to resolve rotating equipment/parts issues
• Work directly with engineers to resolve compressor issues
QUALIFICATIONS
Skills And Qualifications
Expected:
• 5+ years of formal or industry experience in the oil and gas field
• Experience with 3500/3600 CATS and 1500 electric compressors
• Working knowledge of screw and reciprocating compressors
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Willingness to learn and take direction from experienced personnel
• Ability to work in extreme outdoor temperatures
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Basic computer skills for planning, scheduling, and troubleshooting
• Self-starter with strong planning, technical, and analytical skills
• Demonstrated HSE leadership and commitment to Zero Incident results
Desirable:
• Experience with engine analysis and regulatory compliance tool
