JOB DESCRIPTION

Position - General Operator

Location - Hemel Hempstead

Hours - Full Time, Permanent

Start - ASAP

The General Operator will be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the grounds, receive deliveries, tanker drainage and collection of petroleum samples.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Including, but not limited to the following:

• Site tasks that may include the use of hand tools such as an electric drill etc.
• Electric cutting equipment such as hedge cutter.
• Petrol-powered brush cutter. Will use on-site and off-site (site perimeter)
• Groundskeeping - weeding, litter picking, sweeping.
• Use of site vehicle (on and off site).
• Receive site deliveries to storage.
• Draining of nominally empty road tanker compartments - products such as, Petrol, Diesel, and Ethanol.
• Keeping our site clean and tidy. Empty bins - both general and contaminated waste.
• Keep site storage building tidy, organised, and safe.
• Assist in the event of a site emergency.
• As always, any other reasonable task that may arise that does not require specific training.
• Assist the site electrician and site fitter with tasks such as, drain-down of product from pipework, assets, etc, help with isolations, cable pulling, any two person task as required, such as lifting/carrying.
• From time to time it will be required to scale site storage tanks via 15m run of steps (no fall restraints, no fall breaks in run of steps(risk assessed)).
• Required to undergo a flange integrity course that will allow them to assist with the task of 'breaking containment' with the use of pneumatic and battery hand tools.

Once appropriately trained:

• Use a diesel-powered power washer to work on road tanker loading gantry and across site.
• Grass mowing of the site and site perimeter (adjacent to highway).
• Operate a petrol-powered leaf blower.
• Collect ethanol samples from road tanker compartment, perform test and report result. Assist with ethanol offload to storage tank by supervising tanker driver

Organization

• Responsible for ensuring unsafe work is stopped immediately.
• Participate in all relevant meetings which could include leading daily operational meetings.
• Complete required competency training programs.

Communications & Reporting

• Ensure that there is free and open communication both within and across departments.
• Provide accurate and timely information to line manager.

Team Working

• Adopt a flexible working attitude to provide support across all departments to ensure team success.
• Be open to any changes on working practices and development within the role.
• Promote and develop healthy working relationships with fellow colleagues, other departments and customers.

HOURS OF WORK

• 42 hours per week (flexible shifts to site requirements).
• Overtime is a requirement of the role, at times with short notice.

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications / Technical Integrity

• Trained in the operation task related to the receipt, storage and delivery of petroleum.
• Able to demonstrate understanding of the hazardous characteristics of the substances handled.

Able to demonstrate an understanding of the site safety regulations and controls and the action to be taken in an emergency situation
