POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Repairs, rebuilds, or overhauls major assemblies of motor generators, automobiles, buses, trucks or tractors. Work involves most of the following: Diagnosing the source of trouble and determining the extent of repairs required : replacing worn or broken parts such as piston rings, bear ings, or other engine parts; grinding and adjusting valves; rebuilding carburetors; overhauling transmissions; and repairing fuel injection, lighting, and ignition systems . Work sometimes requires repairs without availability of assembly drawings or repair manuals . May require modification of brackets or fixtures to permit parts substitution based on knowledge of operating principles and/or modification to tailor operating characteristics to non-standard requirements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Must have demonstrated satisfactory skills and good performance as an Automotive/Generator Mechanic . Must have three years progressive experience as an Automotive/Generator Mechanic and have graduated from a two year resident course at a vocational institute or a recognized apprenticeship program or a total of six years progressive experience as an Automotive/Generator Mechanic. Must possess a valid driver's license and current CDL . Applicant selected will be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Work will include asso ciated cross-utilization into these and other jobs as required . May require some overtime and/or weekend work.
