The "Mineral, Water and Diagenesis" (MWD) team of which this position is part provides spot expertise, integrated studies and syntheses in inorganic geochemistry and reservoir diagenesis for exploration, development, CCS and R&D projects. They work on the history of rocks and fluids to evaluate seal, reservoir qualities and their hydrocarbon saturation. The MWD service is intended to be transverse and innovative, and supports key values such as safety, pragmatism, trust, autonomy, solidarity and well-being.
The studies conducted by the MWD team typically include:
Activities
The MWD team is looking for a Geologist/Geochemist specialized in mineralogy, based in Pau.
As an interpreter, you will manage and/or participate to studies in mineralogy (mainly) and petro-diagenesis for exploration, development, CCS or R&D projects. You will also contribute to the development of our tools and methods in mineralogy.
Your main responsibilities will include:
Why join us?
Integrated with other synthesis teams and G&R laboratories, the position offers opportunities to develop skills in various analysis and interpretation techniques, but also interact on a wide array of topics related to rocks and fluids (mineralogy, waters, fluid inclusions, isotopes, geo-indicators, reservoir properties modeling, water-rock interactions...).
This position offers a broad vision of exploration activity, development projects, and CCS. It also gives the opportunity to maintain TotalEnergies leadership by adapting our mineral geochemistry methods towards new energies!
Candidate Profile
You hold an Engineer, M.Sc., or Ph.D. in Geology, Mineralogy, and/or Geochemistry and have a minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience with a strong background in mineralogy.

The studies conducted by the MWD team typically include:
- Quantitative mineralogy interpretation and clay rocks characterization for well log calibration, sedimentology and/or drilling aspects (borehole stability, potential reactivity with drilling mud or injection water, cap rock integrity...)
- Petrography, diagenesis and grain coating analyses to assess their impacts on the preservation, improvement, or degradation of reservoir qualities.
- Reservoir quality modeling and prediction of a prospect (Touchstone)
- Fluid inclusion studies (FIS and FI)
- Water geochemistry interpretation (salinity, sourcing, connectivity and drilling contamination aspects)
- Water-rock interactions modeling in CCS projects
