This position is located in the Non-Permitted Petroleum Section of the Underground Storage Tank Management (UST) Division of the Bureau of Land and Waste Management. The individual will be responsible for providing technical review and regulatory oversight for site rehabilitation activities associated with releases from non-permitted petroleum sources within the Underground Storage Tank Management Division.
Job Duties:
Minimum and Additional Requirements
A master's degree in geology, hydrology, hydrogeology, or geological engineering or a bachelor's degree in geology, hydrology, hydrogeology, or geological engineering and one year of related experience.
Additional Requirements:
Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Job Duties:
- Using Risk-Based Corrective Action criteria and established Standard Operating Procedures, reviews and approves technical plans in accordance with established program goals, reviews technical reports and provides accurate and technically complete reviews to customers and insures that releases are assessed in a timely manner for initiation of corrective action remediation or no further action decisions for Non-Permitted Petroleum Releases.
- Records management for all assigned Non-Permitted Petroleum releases, to include updates and maintenance of the EFIS database, E-Permitting and maintenance of project files in accordance with established retention policy.
- Provides technical assistance and information to coworkers, the public, public officials, industries, and consultants. Participates in the peer review process to ensure consistency in the application of program policies.
- Provides support to program management as needed. Serves as point of contact for the section in the manager's absence.
- Creates, modifies and/or maintains the Non-Permitted Petroleum correspondence template letters used to communicate with external stakeholders.
- Performs other duties as required and assists management staff with special duties as assigned.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
A master's degree in geology, hydrology, hydrogeology, or geological engineering or a bachelor's degree in geology, hydrology, hydrogeology, or geological engineering and one year of related experience.
Additional Requirements:
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Good customer service skills
- A good working knowledge of basic hydrogeological principles
- Considerable knowledge of groundwater protection regulations and policies
- A good working knowledge of basic geochemistry and groundwater modeling programs
- A good working knowledge of the ground-water resources of the state of South Carolina
- May involve supervision of technicians on specific projects
- Occasional overnight travel might be required. Must have a valid driver's license
- 10-year driving record that complies with State and Agency Fleet guidelines, and the ability to drive a state vehicle
