Activities

TotalEnergies Renewables USA, LLC is seeking an Electrical Reliability Specialist to join our Texas based team. The primary responsibility of the Electrical Reliability Specialist is to provide technical support to the renewable power plants to identify and eliminate equipment failures, improve the quality of new installations, operation of assets, maintenance repairs, and ensure work is done in accordance with required standards, best practices and applicable regulations and industry codes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Enforce Total Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policies in all responsibilities, ensuring external third parties (O&M/EPC contractors, vendors, consultants) adhere to TotalEnergies HSE standards.
  • Develop, implement, and review O&M reliability maintenance programs for medium and high voltage electrical systems across a portfolio of utility-scale solar power plants and battery energy storage systems (BESS), primarily located in Texas.
  • Provide technical support to enhance the efficiency of preventative maintenance programs, operating procedures, and repair specifications, minimizing recurring performance issues on both simple and complex equipment (e.g., inspection frequencies, inverters, medium voltage transformers, SCADA equipment, and substation NERC requirements).
  • Monitor and improve reliability metrics (Asset Strategies, Spare Parts, Criticality, FMEA, PM/Pd.Ms., etc.) for key electrical components.
  • Review electrical specifications, drawings, commissioning test plans, and other documentation; assist in reviewing IFA/IFC construction packages, provide hands-on commissioning testing support, and startup of electrical equipment during ERCOT commissioning.
  • Maintain accurate records of site commissioning test results to ensure all NERC evidence is correctly captured and meets each standard requirement. Update results in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to be used as equipment baseline for the life of the plant.
  • Supervise preventative and corrective maintenance activities on substation equipment, providing guidance and hands-on support as needed to ensure all switching procedures, grounding, and LOTO are performed safely and in compliance with OSHA and NFPA70E regulations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve faults in high-voltage electrical systems, performing, collecting, and submitting test reports for all BES equipment replaced or repaired after faults to meet required NERC evidence.
  • Lead as site electrical safety champion during emergency outages, coordinating with local technicians and ROC to safely isolate faulted equipment and restore generation while preparing for equipment repair.
  • Ensure compliance with NERC, TRE, and ERCOT reliability standards, as well as company guidelines and protocols for all electrical equipment.
  • Manage spare parts inventory for critical substation equipment, routinely evaluating stock levels to ensure uptime across the operating portfolio.
  • Participate and help lead equipment failure and incident investigations, making improvement recommendations.
  • Maintain good relations with landowners, suppliers, customers, vendors, service providers, governmental authorities, and contractors.

Candidate Profile

Education/Experience:
  • Undergraduate degree in engineering or technical diploma w/ 5years industry experience with similar role. High School Diploma/GED
  • A minimum 10 years of electrical expertise working in the electrical generation, utility, petrochemical, or chemical industries.

Skills:
  • Extensive design and troubleshooting knowledge of electrical equipment and protection devices such as: Switchgear, MCCs, Protection relays (Line distance, feeder, differential, High Impedance), Transformers, Substations.
  • Understanding of electrical drawings such as: one and three lines, area classification, control schematics, wiring and relay diagrams.
  • Experience pulling event data, reviewing results to assist with events at stie level using SEL synchro wave software and tools.
  • Experience with OSHA, Electrical Safe Work Practice (NFPA 70E), NETA ATS/MTS, NEC, NFPA 70B, API 541 and API 547, including proficiency in LOTO procedures and arc flash protection.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Other:
  • Willingness to work hands-on, using extensive troubleshooting knowledge, to lead as electrical SME during site major outages until the unit or site is back in service.
  • US work permit and valid U.S. driver's license.
