Idaho Power - located in Oxbow, Oregon - is looking for a Generation Specialist Apprentice I, II, or Journeyman to join our Hells Canyon Maintenance crew. It's an exciting time to work for Idaho Power. What does a Generation Specialist Apprentice I, II, or Journeyman do for us?

This person performs the necessary maintenance functions essential for the safe and efficient operation of the area plants and facilities.

The Apprentice I level is a training position, designed to prepare future Generation Specialists for work in a team-based environment. These individuals will learn how to maintain a hydro plant and associated equipment.

The Journeyman level may be expected to complete assigned tasks and assume a lead role when required.

A COMPETITIVE CANDIDATE WILL HAVE

Knowledge of:
  • Basic electricity and the function, operation, troubleshooting, and repair of complex equipment through use of drawings and instructional manuals

Skills in:
  • Maintenance of power plants
  • Inspection and maintenance of heavy equipment
  • Basic welding and fabrication
  • Basic computing
  • Personal communication
  • Interactive teamwork
  • Conflict resolution

Ability to:
  • Maintain high productivity with minimal supervision
  • Perform heavy manual labor in adverse conditions

  • Respond to emergencies in excess of normal working hours and perform other duties or tasks as assigned

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Apprentice I

Education:
  • High school diploma or GED

Experience:
  • Currently employed as an IPC Pre-Apprentice Generation Specialist

OR
  • 1 year demonstrated education/work experience in electrical, generation, power plants, welding, fabrication, or mechanical equipment operation and maintenance

OR
  • An equivalent combination of education, experience, or military training

Licenses & Certifications:
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position
  • Ability to obtain a Class A commercial driver's license (CDL) within 6 months of hire
  • Ability to obtain a valid DOT Medical Card prior to hire

Apprentice II

Education:
  • High school diploma or GED

Experience:
  • 1 year of demonstrated education/work experience in electrical, generation, power plants, welding, fabrication, or mechanical equipment operation and maintenance

OR
  • An equivalent combination of education, experience, or military training

OR
  • Currently enrolled in IPC's Generation Apprenticeship Training Program and 6 months power plant experience

Licenses & Certifications:
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position
  • Ability to obtain a Class A commercial driver's license (CDL) within 6 months of hire
  • Ability to obtain a valid DOT Medical Card prior to hire

Journeyman

Education:
  • High school diploma or GED and appropriate education and/or work experience in electrical, generation, power plants, mechanical, hydraulic, or welding that provides the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities

Experience:
  • Certificate of completion of a Generation Specialist training program that is recognized by the Bureau of Office of Apprenticeship (OA), including at least 3 years of relevant work experience in power plant operations and/or maintenance

Licenses & Certifications:
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position
  • Ability to obtain a Class A commercial driver's license (CDL) within 6 months of hire
  • Ability to obtain a valid DOT Medical Card prior to hire

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This job will require occasional, physically strenuous work for long periods of time and in adverse conditions. Job requires the ability to bend, stoop, squat, crouch, crawl, climb into and out of vehicles, twist, kneel, balance and reach, and climb multiple flights of stairs. Occasionally lifting items weighing 75 lbs. shoulder height and above; occasionally lifting items weighing up to 100 lbs. waist high and knee high. Occasionally using exertional force up to 50 lbs. to push/pull cable, etc.; Occasionally carrying items weighing up to 100 lbs. with two hands and occasionally carrying items weighing up to 75 lbs. with one hand. Requires the ability to operate a vehicle. Must be able to grasp and hold simple hand tools and testing equipment and use fine motor skills to use a computer keyboard, test equipment, and replace parts. Applicant must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with reasonable accommodation and without posing a direct threat of harm to self, others, or property. Job placement is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment, post-offer.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be at least 18 years of age in ID and 21 years of age in OR. HCC employees required to complete respirator fit test after hire.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Requires occasional travel with overnight stays. Job requires the employee to obtain and wear approved safety footwear and FR clothing.
