Description
The City of Anaheim Public Utilities Department seeks a well-qualified, customer service-driven, and team-oriented Maintenance Pipefitter Working Supervisor. The Maintenance Pipefitter Working Supervisor supervises and participates in the work of a water construction crew performing mainline, hydrant, meter and valve maintenance and repair.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: This is the lead and working supervisor level in the Maintenance Pipefitter series. Employees at this level oversee the work of one or more crews and perform the more complex tasks of the unit.

Qualifications
Experience: Three (3) years' experience in water construction, maintenance and repair, including two years at the journey level equivalent to Maintenance Pipefitter, and equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade. Advanced training or college coursework in water science or related field is desirable. An equivalent combination of experience and training sufficient to perform the essential job functions and provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
Knowledge of: Methods, materials, practices and tools required for water main servicing, hydrant maintenance and meter installations, testing and repair; water distribution systems and facilities; proper and safe construction of water mains, valves and services; basic purchasing and inventory management procedures; cut sheets and drawings; proper methods of collecting and preserving domestic water samples; safe work practices; methods and techniques of construction, including carpentry and plumbing; and supervisory principles and practices.
Ability to: Effectively supervise a crew involved in water field construction and maintenance; keep daily records and logs and prepare reports; train and motivate others; maintain and promote a safe work environment; interpret and work from sketches, maps and plans; communicate clearly and precisely, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; and provide effective customer service.
License/Certification Required: Possession of a valid California Class A Driver's License with Tanker Endorsement, and a Water Distribution Operator Grade II Certificate issued by the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB).
Environment/Working Conditions
Environmental Conditions: Due to the nature of work assignments, incumbents regularly work outside and are exposed to heat, cold, and inclement weather; work is performed near and around water involving sometimes wet and slippery conditions; incumbents may be exposed to smoke, fumes, gas, live electricity, treated water, high frequency noise, dirt, dust, grease, oil, chemicals, solvents, and toxic agents.
Physical Conditions: Due to the nature of work assignments, incumbents must be able to use both hands, arms, and legs, stoop, bend and lift up to 100 pounds; operate equipment and use tools skillfully; maintain proper balance, stand and walk; climb stairs and ladders at heights in excess of 12 feet; and work in confined spaces using applicable safety requirements.

- Supervise and participate in the work of a water construction crew performing maintenance and repair activities, including main line repairs and installations, excavations, backfilling, and trench compaction.
- Perform maintenance and construction in the installation, chlorination and pressure testing of new mains and appurtenances, main modifications, and abandonments; install main taps, large meters, and vaults.
- Install and repair hydrants, valves, inserta-valves and perform related work in the maintenance and construction of water services for residential, commercial and industrial customers.
- Plan, prioritize, and assign work; train, motivate, and evaluate staff and work with employees to correct deficiencies; establish work standards and evaluate work product.
- Resolve to the most complex customer service issues; answer questions and provide information to the public; receive and investigate complaints and recommend corrective action; promote and ensure exceptional customer service is provided by staff.
- Track and log maintenance and service activities utilizing maintenance software.
- Maintain inventory of vehicles, equipment and tools assigned to assigned water crew; coordinate with Fleet services and vendors to ensure equipment is returned to service promptly.
- Oversee work quality and final work product of crew; ensure assignments meet departmental standards.
- Participate in a scheduled rotating emergency standby program.
- Prepare and submit information regarding changes needed in the water mapping for geographic information systems (GIS) to reflect current field conditions.
- Operate equipment to and from job sites, including water tankers, flatbeds, dump trucks, forklifts, backhoes, and mobile cranes.
- Maintain records and submit reports on crew project status; maintain accurate time, material, and equipment used; inventory and order materials and supplies.
- Collect and preserve domestic water samples.
- Perform related duties as required
